Rev. Dan W. Larkin, Jr. was born March 14, 1971. He spiritual journey began when he accepted the Christ at the age of six at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He then joined Southern Baptist Church in 1984 by letter. While at Southern, he became a musician in that same year. In 1988, he became the Min. of Music and has served in that capacity for over 30 years. While at Southern, he was licensed as minister in 2007 and ordained 2011. He received the Faithful Servant Eagle Award from the Southern Baptist Church (Southern’s Highest Honor) in October 2014.
Rev. Larkin, Jr. holds degrees in Music (Xavier/Temple Baptist), Christian Ministries (Temple Baptist), Master of Theological Studies (Faith Evangelical) and the highest of which is a Master of Divinity (Faith Evangelical), and he is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry Degree (with a focus on Strategic Leadership in the Black Church) from United Theological Seminary.
As a musician, he began as a 1st chair saxophonist for then well-known traveling CPS Honor Band. As he grew and matured, he became highly respected both locally and nationally as he has done many music workshops and is a sought-after clinician. He has worked with gospel greats such as Dr. Charles Fold, Donald Lawrence and Dottie Peoples. He is a songwriter as well as the executive producer of the album, Come into the House, performed by the Southern Baptist Mass Choir (2009). He has served a Musical Director for The Speaking of Women’s Health Conference. In 2018, He presented for Opera Goes to Church. He also teaches music for Cincinnati Public Schools and Xavier University in the Center of Faith and Justice.
As a teacher, he has faithfully and diligently instructed Sunday School, Wednesday Bible Study, Associate Minister sessions, Singles, Youth Ministry Sessions, and “Service of the Lord” (i.e., he developed this curriculum for especially the Music Ministry). He has served as a teacher at the WHW Expository Teaching & Preaching Conference (LA, California); Ohio Midwestern College-Faculty formerly Temple Baptist College (Cincinnati, OH); V&B Ministries Church Growth Conference (Dallas, Texas); and Lecturer for Western Union Youth Department Revival (Xenia, Oh). Currently GMWA as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean (Academic Division Administrative Office and Staff), where he assists with convention logistics and plans the Academic Convocation.
As a preacher, he has ministered on locally and nationally which is inclusive of being the lecturer at the Gospel Music Workshop of America Daily Bread Service as well as a Morning Glory preacher for the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. He is also participant of the NCGCC Minister’s Alliance. He has served as the Interim Pastor of Southern Baptist Church since 2019.
Although music he is passionate about music, he has proven to be a serious student of the Word of God and demonstrates genuine gratitude for the abilities God has bestowed on him and has dedicated his life to sharing the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone he comes encounters. He is the father of two sons Christopher Eric Larkin and Dan William Larkin, III.
